Prabhas Patan: Gujarat is going to get this week a promenade or a walk way even better than the one at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. While a promenade in Ahmedabad is located on the bank of the river, the upcoming promenade which is to be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, August 20 is located on the shore of Arabian Sea, just next to the first Jyotirlinga Somnath Mandir at Prabhas Patan in Gujarat.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate a 1.48 km long promenade built at a cost of Rs. 47.12 crore.

The Somnath Promenade has been developed under PRASHAD Scheme of Ministry of Tourism. The project “Development of Somnath Promenade, Gujarat” under the scheme was approved by the Ministry of Tourism with the cost or Rs. 47.12 crores in December 2018. The components viz. Walkway Pavement development, Tetrapod and street scape including street furniture and street art have been successfully implemented.

The promenade which is to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister has provision of lighting, street furniture, colorful tetrapod, benches for ocean view. It would be known as Samudra Darshan Path. The walk way will also have wall paintings depicting religious tales.

Shree Somnath temple on the western edge of the Gujarat state is where the first of the twelve holy Jyotirlingas emerged in India and thus is holiest of holy places for all Hindus across the globe. Somnath Jyotirling is one of the important destinations where convergence of infrastructure initiatives taken up by Ministry of tourism is seen. The schemes converged at Somnath are PRASHAD and IDDS (Iconic Destination Development Scheme).
