Modhera: It is learnt through the sources that Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi will dedicate the first ‘solar village’ at Modhera in Mehsana district from Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar during his visit to Gujarat on 5th September 2021. PM Modi will also inaugurate School of Excellence project in light of Teachers’ Day on this day.

The project of solar village is completed at a cost of Rs 69 crores. PM Modi will dedicate the solar village with remote control from Mahatma Mandir. Total 1610 houses of the village will receive electricity completely generated through solar energy everyday for 24 hours basis through South Korean technology. The demand of electricity at Modhera village is only 10 thousand unit per hour at present. Though the solar-village project can meet the electricity demand of 1.50 lakh units per hour. Storage of solar power for night-time supply and real time load management at low voltage level are the challenges while executing this project which is demonstrative in nature.

Modhera is famous for Solanki era Sun temple, a temple dedicated to Sun god.

The entire project has been awarded to a private firm through a tender that has also a provision of maintenance of the project for 10 years. A 6 MW ground mounted solar power plant in 12 hectare of land at Sujanpura village, located at 3 km distance from Modhera will be connected with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the storage of the solar power for supply in even night time. The project also involves rooftop solar systems atop 271 houses in Modhera village that have given consent for the same. Excess power units generated through rooftop plants will be released in the power grid.
