Polling involving over 11.93 lakh voters on Sunday in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: State Election Commission of Gujarat today in a note said that over 11.93 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes in polling in Gujarat on 3rd October for Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) regular election and midterm polls, by-polls of other civic and panchayat bodies. The total number of seats that are going to poll are 218. BJP has won 11 seats unopposed before polling.

While Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation’s regular election covering 44 seats, involves over 2.82 lakh voters, a two-seat by-poll of Amdavad Municipal Corporation in Chandkheda and Isanpur wards and one-seat by-poll in Junagadh Municipal Corporation cover over 2.23 lakh voters.

Midterm elections of Thara, Okha and Bhanvad municipalities would cover total 76 seats and nearly 80,000 voters. Four seats of Thara and two seats of Okha municipality have gone to BJP unopposed.

Out of 45 vacant seats of Municipalities, BJP has won one seat each unopposed in Chanasma, Mahemdavad and Tarsadi.

8 vacant seats of district panchayats will also go for polling.

Among 48 vacant seats of taluka panchayats, two BJP candidates are declared victorious unopposed while on another two seats no nomination form has been received by State Election Commission. Election of one seat has been cancelled. Polling will therefore take place for 43 seats.

In Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation election, out of 161 total candidates, 44 are from BJP, 44 from Congress, 40 from AAP, 14 from BSP, 2 from NCP, 6 are from other parties and 11 are independent candidates.

In Ahmedabad and Junagadh Municipal Corporation by-polls there are 10 candidates – 3 from BJP, 3 from Congress, 1 from NCP, 2 from AAP and 1 independent.

In 78-seat midterm polls of three municipalities, 78 candidates are from BJP, 72 from Congress, 52 from AAP and 3 are independents.

In 42-seat municipality by-elections, out of total 117 candidates, 42 are from BJP, 28 from Congress, 2 from BSP, 1 NCP, 20 AAP, 1 AIMIM, 1 other party and 22 are independent candidates.

In 8-seat district panchayat by-polls, BJP and Congress each has fielded 8 candidates, BSP – 1 and AAP has fielded 7 candidates.

Among taluka panchayat seats that are going to by-polls, out of 123 candidates, 43 are from BJP, 43 – Congress, 2 – BSP, 28 – AAP, 1 National Peoples Party, 3 other parties and 3 are independent candidates.
