Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 41 out of 44 seats of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC). Congress has won 3 seats while Aam Admi Party (AAP) has won 1 seat.

Among two Congress candidate who achieved victory, Gajendrasinh Vaghela is elected from Pethapur-GEB ward number 2 with 6,070 votes. Ankit Barot has won from ward number 3 which covers parts of sectors 24, 27 and 28. He received 5,598 votes.

Aam Admi Party candidate Tushar Manilal Parikh has won with 3,974 votes from ward number 6.

BJP woman candidate Miraben Mineshkumar Patel has won with highest number of votes – 8,635 from Koba ward number 10 among all candidates.

This is first electoral victory of Gandhinagar in this civic body, the smallest in the State among all municipal corporations. There were over 2.93 lakh eligible voters. Over 56 per cent cast vote. Gandhinagar got municipal corporation in 2010. In first election in 2011, Congress was ahead of BJP by margin of 3 seats. However BJP captured power after defection of Congress Mayor and others. The second election was held in 2016 in which both BJP and Congress won equal number of seats. BJP however came to power due to defection of Congress party’s Mayoral candidate. Year 2021 victory is significant because it’s not just a token but the grand victory and it is the first electoral victory in GMC election for BJP.
