90 per cent canal works under Sardar Sarovar ptoject over: SSNNL

Gandhinagar: Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited today in a note, informed that 90 percent of the works of the canal network is completed under Sardar Sarovar Project.

Total works of the length of 62,774.45 kms including the works of 458.32 kms of main canals, 2,661.554 kms of branch canals, 4,434.27 kms of sub canals or vishakha, 14,415.284 kms of tributary canals or prashakha, and 40,804.961 kms of pra-prashakha canals are completed, a note informed.

The irrigation capacity is developed in 16.90 lakh hectares of land under this project. The benefit of irrigation is provided to a total 12.09 lakh hactors of irrigation land with Narmada water as per the satellite imaging study by Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Application and Geoinformatics (BISAG) in January 2021. The main canal of Narmada of 458 kms length provides water to various areas of the state and in Rajasthan.

The planning is to provide the drinking water and water for in-home uses to 9490 villages and 173 cities of the state. As of August 2021, total 9104 villages, 7 municipal corporations and 169 cities are included in the same. So, around 3 crores people are getting the drinking water from Narmada due to the same.

The electricity production of 5077 crores units is done through two hydroelectric power stations of 1450 MW established under Narmada Yojana, which is of the market worth of Rs 20,308 crores.
