Bhavnagar: Sihor Maru Kansara Gnati trust here has demanded OBC (Other Backward Class) status for Kansara community in Gujarat. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to Sihor prant-officer and mamlatdar.
The Kansara community in Gujarat has been demanding OBC category inclusion and memorandums have been recently submitted to various authorities such as Chief Minister, district collectors, prant officers and mamlatdars.
The Kansara organization claimed that only 20 percent people of their community are associated with the business of utensils as the usage of utensils of copper and brass is negligible now. They claimed that their community doesn’t hold financial, educational and social influence as they are scattered and surviving with low income.
They claimed Kansara community is included in the OBC category in several other states of the country. The population of the Kansara community is 50 to 60 thousand in Gujarat. The state government had conducted a survey of the community 20 years ago considering their demands but no decision was taken, they claimed.
It’s worth noting that OBC (Other Backward Class) status avails benefit of reservation in government jobs and admissions in educational institutes. DeshGujarat
