Not all CCTV cameras working in police stations

Gandhinagar: Total 7282 out of 7327 CCTV cameras at 619 police stations are in a working condition and 45 are not working due to technical reasons or renovation, stated the state government following the order of Gujarat High Court chief justice bench to give information of the state of CCTV camera in police stations, during hearing of a case of contempt of court.
The hearing of contempt of court plea for beating 2 females by the traffic police in Ahmedabad was going on. In the report of Ahmedabad Joint Police Commissioner regarding the same, it was mentioned about closed CCTV cameras at Vastrapur police station. The chief justice had questioned why the CCTV of police stations are closed only when there is an incident of a complaint against the police.
The state government has further informed that 9 to 10 CCTV are installed at police stations under PSI and 15 CCTV are installed at the police station under PI. The daily reports of CCTV are prepared and there is provision of storing the CCTV recordings till 30 days, it adds.
