Rail-Post Gati Shakti Express Service pilot project kicks off from Surat

Surat: The Rail-Post Gati Shakti Express service, a pilot project jointly launched by Indian Railways and Indian post for door to door parcel delivery via train from Surat to Varanasi has kicked off.

The bookings were started on 30th March. The parcels collected at Surat station will be sent through the trains selected under the pilot project. The office and godown of the Rail-Post Gati Shakti Express is set-up at Surat railway station.

The process of applying seals on the parcels will be done at godown. The clip machines will be used for carrying the heavy parcels to the train coaches. Several trains are selected under the service. The parcels of around 150 to 200 kg weight will be prepared. The post office employees will send the parcels of the weight ranging between 35 kg to 100 kg to the railway station. They will be further delivered by the railway to the destination. If the pilot project of Surat to Varanasi goes successful, then other cities will be also linked to Surat.
