World Bank team in Gujarat for Mission School of Excellence

Gandhinagar: The high level delegation of World Bank is on a visit to Gujarat under the leadership of World Bank’s Global Education Director Jaime Saavedra to review the transformation in school education in the state.

They are on a visit to Gujarat to analyse the transformation in school education due to Rs. 10,000 crore Mission School of Excellence and data based initiatives at command and control centre, as per a statement from the state government.

The Mission School of Excellence is undertaken at a cost of around Rs 10 thousand crore in the span of next five years. A total of 41,000 schools including all the 35,133 government schools and 5,847 grant-in-aid schools across the state will be benefited under the Mission School of Excellence within the upcoming 5 years. Global level infrastructural facilities and educational facilities will be provided to 20,000 schools. The programme aims to cover construction of a total 50,000 new classrooms, facility of smart classes in 1,50,000 classrooms, 20,000 new computer labs, 5000 stam lab/ tinkering labs within the upcoming 5 years in these schools, as stated in a statement.

The World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) have approved a loan of 1 billion USD, which is equivalent to around Rs 7500 crore for the project. The World Bank has made the highest investment in the education sector in the country so far for the Mission School of Excellence project.
