Work on 4.58 km part of the total 66.80 km long ring road to begin in Vadodara

Vadodara: Several years after Surat, Ahmedabad and Rajkot, decision has been taken to construct a 75 meter ring road in the VUDA area on the periphery of Vadodara city. Although it usually takes 8 years to complete a six-lane ring road. However, in the immediate future a 4.58 kilometer long ring road connecting Gotri-Sevasi-Sindhrot state highway and connecting Vadodara-Padra-Jambusar state highway will be developed at a cost of Rs 54.97 crores.

Work on the development plan for the city began jointly by the municipal corporation and VUDA around 2000 and was completed only by 2006. This development plan was approved by the state government in 2012 under which a 75 meter ring road in the VUDA area on the periphery of the city was indicated.

However, work on the indicated 66.80 kilometer long Ring Road remained stalled because of agriculture zones that are present in many places. However, VUDA began the process of implementing various TP schemes for opening roads without having to acquire land.

Of the 66.80 kilometres proposed, 84 percent (56 kilometers) lies in the area under the jurisdiction of VUDA while only 10.80 kilometers of the road lies in within the limits of the VMC. Since the major part of the ring road falls in the area under VUDA, the agency has been given the responsibility for developing it for the sake of administrative ease and co-ordinated action.
