Extradition trial of Jamnagar’s dreaded mafia Jayesh Patel begins in London

Jamnagar: The 13 day trial for deciding whether to extradite Jamnagar land mafia Jayesh Patel, who is currently in a London jail since his arrest in mid-March, began formally in a London court where the accused was produced via a video link.

Cases of murder and attempts to murder are currently pending against Patel who had fled the country after committing the offences. He was arrested from London on March 16, 2021 and has been languishing in a jail there but now a West Minister magistrate’s court will decide whether to extradite him to India.

Claire Kyucee, representing the Indian government before the Crown Prosecution Services, informed the London court that India wants the custody of Jayesh Patel for the offences he has committed there.

Patel is wanted in the 2018 murder of a lawyer, an attempt to murder builder Girish Der in 2020, in the case of firing on Prof Rajani’s car, and attempting to murder Hasmukh Pedhadhiya.

Patel had filed 25 pleas in Jamnagar for bail but each time his plea was dismissed by the court. On April 28, 2018, attorney Kirit Joshi, who was arguing his bail petitions, was stabbed to death by hired assassins.

After that he was also accused of firing on Prof Rajani’s car, and aiming a gun at builder Girish Der. But each time the accused had to flee because of resistance shown by the victims. After that, in January 2021, Patel was also accused of firing on Hasmukh Pedhadiya. Now that the hearing has begun in the London court, a verdict is now being awaited. DeshGujarat
