A tram in Poland named after late Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Jadeja

Gandhinagar: Indian embassy in Poland kicked off Amrit Mahotsav celebrations to mark 75 years of India’s freedom. Ambassador of India in Poland, Nagma Mallick with Jacek Sutryk, Mayor Wroclaw inaugurated the India at 75 Tram-‘Dobry Maharaja’ (Dobry means good in Polish language and Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja is popularly called Dobry Maharaja in Poland) at Wroclaw, named after the Maharajas of Jamnagar and Kolhapur who gave refuge during World War 2 to over 6000 Polish people.

During the second world war, Maharaja (ruler) of Nawanagar (Jamnagar) Shri Digvijaysinhji had given shelter to 6,000 refugees. Maharaja had provided asylum to nearly 1,000 war orphans and women at his Balachadi Palace in his princely state then.
