State govt unable to find private operators for Ahmedabad-Kevadia sea-plane service

Ahmedabad: Efforts to resume the seaplane service between Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront and the Statue of Unity in Kevadia have come up a cropper and the project has been put into the deep freezer by the state government.

All the three private players, who had submitted bids for running the service, have backed out citing lack of demand and high operational costs.

Launched amidst much publicity in October 2020, the service had to wind up operations in April 2021.

During this period, the 19-seater sea-plane ferried only 2,000 passengers between Kevadia and Ahmedabad.

With this, the state government might also scrap a proposed seaplane service between Sabarmati Riverfront and Dharoi dam in North Gujarat. DeshGujarat.
