Multiplex owners in Gujarat to approach govt to simplify tax-procedure for tax-free movies
June 09, 2022
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government’s move to declare several movies tax-free may offer a reason to rejoice for the audiences, but it is proving to be a headache for multiplex owners.
Earlier the system with regards to tax-free movies was that multiplex owners did not levy the entertainment tax on the audiences and they, in turn, did not have to deposit the tax collected from them with the government.
But under the current system, though multiplex owners cannot levy entertainment tax on the audiences, they have to deposit entertainment tax with the government and later reclaim it after 2-3 months following a fixed procedure.
The Gujarat Multiplex Owners Association are thinking about holding discussions with the government on the issue of the taxation system being made unnecessarily difficult and complex in case of tax-free movies. DeshGujarat.
