Agnipath scheme; Center issues “Myths vs Facts” note

New Delhi: Protest against centre’s Agnipath scheme escalated in some states on the second day. Some students in the country are on the streets against this decision and opposing the 4-year plan. On the other hand the government has through the ministry of Information & Broadcasting tweeted “myth vs facts” video note.

Meanwhile Col. DPK Pillay (Research Fellow, IDSA) urged the students to not resort to such means and said, “This is not the way; you should not take the law into your hands; opportunities will come your way; it is difficult to accept the change; policy needs to be implemented in the right manner.

Another veteran K J Singh (Lt Gen (R) said that “I feel sorry for the youth; if you get into such violence you become a history-sheeter and there will be a problem to their verification; there is a lack of clarity; they should give out clarification”.

A Youth from the same state of Bihar where violence is happening shared his thoughts and said, “This is a very good step has been taken by the Central Government and Prime Minister Modi Ji, which will provide employment to the youth of the country. This scheme will give an opportunity to skilled youth to join the Indian Army.”

As a clarification, the Central Government released a “Myths vs Facts” document addressing the concerns raised on the recruitment plan. The government has said that those wishing to be entrepreneurs after their service as Agniveers will get a financial package and bank loan scheme and those wishing to study further will be given a 12th Class equivalent certificate and a bridging course for further studies, and those who want salaried jobs will be given priority in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state police.
