Gujarat police to provide protection to peripatetic Jain monks on their journey
June 16, 2022
Gandhinagar: ‘Chaaturmaas,’ a period of religious importance in the Indian calendar, will begin on July 12. Jain monks and nuns, who had gone on pilgrimage, are headed for destinations where they will spend this period in penance and meditation. Quite often, Jain monks and nuns during their journey by foot to ‘Chaaturmas’ destination end up meeting with accidents. The Gujarat police have come out with a circular for ensuring the safety and security of Jain monks and nuns.
The Gujarat DGP has instructed all commissioners of police, superintendents of police and police inspectors to make arrangements for safety and security of the Jain monks and nuns.
These special arrangements will be in place between May 24 and July 10. As if this were not enough, the monks and nuns may even be offered police protection if they ask for it. DeshGujarat
