Row over bungalows allocated at “highly discounted” rates to former ministers in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: Former Ministers of Gujarat spend only Rs. 4800 for the monthly rent of bungalows against the market value of Rs. 42,000 rent, the State Congress spokesperson has alleged.

Ahmedabad: While there are government staffers and employees waiting for the allotment of their government residence, former ministers from the previous Vijay Rupani led government are living in lavish government allotted bungalows at a monthly rental cost of merely Rs. 4800. The BJP leaders have been living off these privileges at the cost of public tax money, it is alleged. The former ministers were allotted these bungalows so that their children/grand children can complete the academic year of school-college. However the State Congress spokesperson has alleged that children of none of ministers are enrolled in any school – college in Gandhinagar.

According to State Congress Spokesperson, although the bungalows were allotted for the primary purpose of education of the ministers’ children, apparently it turns out none of them even study anymore. In order to make sure the education of the children wasn’t disturbed, many bungalows were allotted to former ministers. As per the conventional practice, former ministers would be allotted residence in MLA quarters. But in this case, they has been allotted bungalows because these former ministers wouldn’t like to stay in MLA quarters.

The market value calculated for these bungalows till the very date of 31st May, 2015 was Rs. 42 Thousand. But, the former ministers reside in these bungalows at a minimal rent of Rs. 4800. Congress spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi has made allegations claiming that the educational term of school-colleges has ended. This suggests that none of the ministers’ children study anymore. This simply means that these ministers are exploiting public tax money by living at a minimal rent instead of paying the market value of these luxurious bungalows.

Doshi further alleged that there is no solution whatsoever for the many pending requests of government employees and staff for allotment of a house in Gandhinagar. But the bungalows were allotted swiftly to the former ministers. The Congress party has demanded the government to release a list of all the former ministers whose children are still continuing their education. Congress has demanded that the government should get these bungalows vacated, or collect the rent as per the current market value.

Doshi said the bungalows are allocated to former ministers Nitin Patel, Bupendrasinh Chudasama, Saurabh Patel, Ganpat Vasava, Jayesh Radadiya, Ishwarbhai Parmar, Pradipsinh Jadeja, Parshottam Solanki, Jaydrathsinh Parmar, Ishwarsinh Patel, Vasanbhai Ahir, Vibhavariben Dave, Ramanbhai Patkar, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya. The bungalows allotted to them are in ‘K’ and ‘Kh’ categories. DeshGujarat
