Chhota Udepur observes Bandh to protest against cow slaughter
July 14, 2022
Chhota Udepur: Widespread anger was visible all over Chhota Udepur against the slaughtering of cows and the town observed a ‘bandh’ on its own on Wednesday as a mark of protest. A rally was also held from Mahakali temple to the district collectorate, where a memorandum was handed over to the district collector.
Unlawful abattoirs were discovered in the Station and Vasedi areas of the town where 16 cows were found slaughtered and as many as 80 others were rescued alive. Resentment was rife among the local population after the abattoirs were exposed by the police to blow the lid on rampant cow slaughter.
On Wednesday, the entire Hindu community united and held a rally to submit a memorandum to the district collector on the burning issues of love jihad, cow slaughter, land jihad and implementation of the Disturbed Areas Act.
The memorandum submitted to collector Stuti Charan demands strict punishment against those who slaughtered the cows. It also demanded that a thorough search operation be conducted by the police in Station and Vasedi areas after interrogating the accused for extracting information about their other accomplices who are involved in this offence as well as to find out for how long have such activities been going on in the area.
The memorandum also seeks complete scanning of CCTV images to identify the routes and the vehicles in which the cows were transported to these abattoirs. It also seeks that the absconding accused be brought to book at the earliest and demands that the water and power supply of the illegal abattoirs be cut immediately.
The memorandum also seeks a detailed investigation into where was the beef produced in such large quantities being sold.
The memorandum highlights the fact that tags could be found on the ears of the cows rescued alive from these abattoirs and it would not be difficult to trace their owners.
The memorandum also seeks action against those elements from the minority community that indulge in eve-teasing near schools and colleges, which is also leading to incidents of love-jihad. The memorandum seeks strict police action against all such anti-social elements.
