SMC launches ‘Op Niramaya’ to clear up streets of Navsari after flood waters recedes

Surat: A team from the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken the responsibility of bringing life back to normal in the flood-affected Navsari. The operation has been named “Operation Niramaya’. Under the orders of the municipal commissioner, a team of 100 officers and employees have launched a cleaning operation under the leadership of Deputy Municipal Commissioner (He & Ho).
The operation will repair the roads that have been damaged by the flood waters and to clear up the grime and mud from the streets of Navsari on a war-footing as flood waters have now receded in Navsari. The SMC is playing the role of a responsible neighbor, deploying both man and machine power.

The team of SMC is persevering hard for undertaking activities such as fumigation, streetlight repairing, clearing up the water logging by setting up de-watering pumps, repairing damaged sewage pipelines, making water treatment plant functional again, distribution of chlorine tablets and distribution of drinking water through tankers.
Almost 90 percent of Navsari was flooded after the Purna river overflowed due to incessant rainfall.
The SMC has sent 10 dewatering pumps, 5 water tankers, 2 gulper machines, 2 jetting machines, 10 JCBs, 12 tripper trucks, and 4 safai karmacharis. The 12 JCBs, 50 tractors, 8 hydro jetting machines, 20 teams of fire-fighters and four section machines are being employed to spring-clean Navsari within a matter of a few hours.
