1.6 lakh Indians renounced their citizenship in 2021; Over 78000 got US citizenship

New Delhi: Ministry of Home Affairs on 19th July during the Monsoon Session of Lok Sabha presented the data about the people who renounced Indian citizenship till the Current year since 2019.
According to that data, a total of 1,63,370 Indians renounced their citizenship in different countries, as compared to 85,256 in 2020 and 1,44,017 in 2019.
Out of these 1,63,370 citizens, more than 78 thousand got US citizenship, whereas more than 25 Thousand got citizenship in Australia, 21597 got Canadian citizenship, and over 14 thousand people got Citizenship in the United Kingdom.
The data was provided by MHA in answer to the question by BSP MP from Saharanpur Shri Haji Fazlur Rehman.
In response to the question of why these individuals renounced Indian citizenship, the answer stated that “these individuals renounced Indian citizenship for reasons personal to them.”
1.6 lakh Indians renouncing their citizenship in 2021 is the highest in the past five years.
