Over 37,000 cattle treated for Lumpy virus, 999 dead: Gujarat govt

Jmanagar: The minister of agriculture and animal husbandry in Gujarat, Raghavji Patel today claimed that the treatment has been provided to all 37,121 cattle infected with lumpy skin disease in 880 villages of 14 districts of the state.
The lumpy skin disease has spread in cattle of 14 districts namely Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Porbandar, Morbi, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Banaskantha and Surat, according to the State government.
The cases of lumpy skin disease are reported in 880 villages of 14 districts. Total 999 deaths of cattle have been reported so far due to lumpy skin disease as per the taluka level report about the disease, stated the State government in a note.
The infected cattle are isolated and vaccination of over 2.68 lakh cattle has been done to prevent the spread of disease. The survey, treatment and vaccination are ongoing in affected villages of 14 districts by 152 veterinary officers and 438 livestock inspectors.
