Gandhinagar: The Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is becoming a grave concern for the authorities as scientists have termed it an outbreak. The central Government has directly started monitoring the situation.
Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the State govt and the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation and other milk unions to carry out vaccination on a mass scale.
LSD cases are now reported in at least 14 out of 33 districts of the state and have claimed 1000 cattle lives after infecting about 36000 cattle animals till now.
RS Sodhi, managing director of GCMMF, (Brand Amul) said that ” We have arranged for 16 lakh vaccines. Our member milk unions with the support of the state government are going ahead with massive vaccination drive – both through ring vaccination as well as individual treatment of the animals.”
It is observed that infections are not at the places where the vaccination drive was carried out earlier.
