New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected the plea of former sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt demanding withdrawal of the FIR against him in a custodial torture case.

Former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt is currently in jail. He is accused of custodial death case of a person from Jamjodhpur in 1990. The Supreme Court ruled that there is no need for interference of the Supreme Court, in the trial court’s order to issue the summons, and the High Court’s order.

Former sacked IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, a highly controversial officer, in 1990 served as Additional SP in Jamnagar district.  Around 133 accused were held in the case of riots in Jamjodhpur then. Three accused out of them had filed complaints against Sanjiv Bhatt alleging that they were illegally held and tortured. Jamnagar magistrate had issued summons against him following the three complaints, which were challenged in the high court. The high court had rejected two complaints against him but refused to reject the remaining one complaint. The lawyer of Sanjiv Bhatt argued in the Supreme Court that the evidence for the 3 complaints are the same. So, the remaining one complaint should also be rejected, after the rejection of the two complaints.
