Vijay Rupani reacts to his appointment as Punjab BJP incharge

Rajkot: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, a day after his appointment as BJP in-charge of Punjab and Chandigadh today said that the situation of Punjab is poor at present and he along with the party will convey the party’s message to every corner of the state.

He said, “The responsibility of both states is allotted to me. I have grown through the work for the party for years. So, it is an interesting subject for me. Punjab is a challenge. So, by considering that, I will work with my full energy, power and mind; to make efforts to make BJP omnipresent, to make BJP reach every corner and to make a strong union (of the party).”

Rupani stepped down from the post of Gujarat Chief Minister last year. He is presently MLA from Rajkot. He has been now shifted to party organization. It is not clear whether he will contest the assembly election later this year. He has time and again said that it would be the decision of the party. BJP has done poorly in recent assembly elections in Punjab. The party has not touched double digit score even in the backdrop of farmers’ agitation there. While assembly polls are over four years away in Punjab, the immediate task for Rupani will be to ensure a respectable score for the party in upcoming Lok Sabha elections that are likely to be held by mid of 2024.

Punjab is presently ruled by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is also trying to make inroads in Gujarat at present. DeshGujarat
