Gujarat Electricity Industry (Reorganisation and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill passed in assembly

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Assembly Yesterday unanimously passed the Gujarat Electricity Industry (Reorganisation and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill, 2022. This bill aims to push for ‘ease of doing business by legalizing some acts of non -compliance by industries.
While introducing the bill, the state energy minister Kanu Desai said, “The Bill seeks to amendment for reducing the compliance burden on the industry and consumers with a progressive action towards Ease of Doing Business.”
Minister also informed that as per the old provision noncompliance is punishable with imprisonment up to three months or a fine not exceeding ₹ 2 lakh or both. However, after the amendment, the non-compliance will be separated into “low, moderate and high categories” and the imprisonment under this provision shall not apply to acts classified as “low or moderate category.
Congress MLAs did not oppose the bill, and during his comments on the Bill, CJ Chavda said similar provisions should be made for residents and agricultural power consumers.
Other than this bill, the state assembly also passed the Gujarat Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2022, by a majority, while congress MLAs opposed the rise in GST.
