Gandhinagar: The Prime Minister who also laid the foundation stone of the Deesa airfield in Gujarat said that the forward Air Force base will add to the security architecture of the country. Noting Deesa’s proximity with the border, the Prime Minister said that now India is better prepared to respond to any misadventure on the western borders. “After coming to the government, we decided to set up an operational base in Deesa, and this expectation of our forces is being fulfilled today. This region will now become an effective centre of security of the country”, Shri Modi added.

While kickstarting the works for Deesa air base of IAF from Mahatma Mandir in Gujarat capital Gandhinagar, PM Modi said “I can see on the screen that the people of Deesa were full of excitement (as we launched works for Deesa air base). Joy and excitement could be seen. The construction of Deesa Airfield is also an important achievement for the security of the country and development of that sector. Deesa is only 130 kms away from the international border. If our forces, especially the Air Force, will be in Deesa, then we will be able to respond to any attack even better at the Western border. I convey many congratulations to the people of Deesa from Gandhinagar. Deesa, Banaskantha and Patan shine.

The PM further said – “Gujarat had allotted the land for Airfield in Deesa in 2000. When I was Chief Minister here, I constantly made efforts for its construction. I used to repeatedly explain its significance to the then central government. Nothing was done for 14 years despite allotment of such a large land. The files were made in such a way, that it took time for me also to properly establish the things even after reaching there. We decided to make operational base at Deesa. The expectation of our forces is fulfilled today.”

He added, ” Banaskantha and Patan, the center of Suryashakti in Gujarat will now also emerge as center of Vayushakti as well”. DeshGujarat
