Morbi bridge collapse death toll rises to 135; two persons still missing, 170 rescued

Gandhinagar: The death toll of the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy has gone up to 135 so far, along with 2 persons missing and 17 persons under medical treatment in hospitals. A search operation is underway at Morbi for missing persons. These details were shared by the minister of disaster management Rajendra Trivedi today afternoon.

He added that around 170 people were rescued in the incident. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel has declared a relief of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased. PM has declared a relief of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased, which will be paid via Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT). The relief for the injured people is Rs 50 thousand. The payment of relief of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each 134 deceased from the CM relief fund is completed on an urgent basis.

The minister further informed that the last rites of dead bodies are performed by the 31st of October. One of the victims Bahib Ul S K Mehbub Sheikh was from the Eastern Indian State of West Bengal.
