26 boats operating between Okha and Bet Dwarka suspended for overcrowding

Dwarka: The district administration has suspended 26 boats operating between Okha and Bet Dwarka to prevent accidents due to overcrowding.
The camps are organized with Dwarka prant officer, Okha municipality chief officer, Okha port officer, police, and rescue team to keep watch on the ferry service between Okha jetty and Bet Dwarka. The equipment for rescue and swimmers is deployed at sites such as Shivrajpur beach, Gomti Ghat, Sudama Setu.

A total of 183 boats from Okha-Bet Dwarka is registered with the administration, out of which 100 are operating at present. The licensed boats with capacities of 50, 70, 100, or 120 passengers operate here for the journey between the mainland and the bet. The boats were previously overcrowded with passengers, video of which had gone viral. In the wake of the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy, the administration conducted a checking drive.
