Morbi Mishap : Oreva manager calls it ‘Act of God’ in Court

Morbi: The Morbi bridge mishap in Gujarat has taken an unexpected turn as the accused managers of the Oreva company cited “Act of God” as the cause of the tragedy.

“One of the two managers of Oreva company (that have been arrested) told the court that it is an ‘Act of God’,” said Additional Public Prosecutor, Advocate HS Panchal told the media.

The Add. Public Prosecutor  also revealed that, “In the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, Investigating Officer found the cable (of bridge) was rusting away. Prima facie, it was an old cable and only flooring of the bridge was changed, but not its cables, and it wasn’t oiled or greased.”

“The investigation officer also reveled that the tender process did not take place and contract was directly allotted,” Advocate Panchal further said.

Gujarat’s Morbi Court on Wednesday sent four people into police custody and five into judicial custody as a result of the October 30 collapse of the century-old suspension bridge, which killed 135 people. DeshGujarat
