Gujarat NCC Directorate commences Sailing Expedition “Sarovar Manthan” at Tappar Dam

Gandhidham: Under the aegis of Major General Arvind Kapoor, Additional Director General of Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu Directorate, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Navy Wing under Jamnagar NCC Group commenced sailing expedition named “SAROVAR MANTHAN” at Tappar Dam, Gandhidham on 05 November 2022 as part of Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU). The expedition is intended to cover approximately 210 km over a period of 10 days and will terminate on 14 November 2022.
The event was Flagged Off from Tappar Dam viewpoint by Dr Jairajsinh Jadeja, Vice Chancellor of Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University in the presence of local dignitaries. This expedition is being undertaken by 03 Officers, 12 Permanent Instructor staff and 75 Naval cadets from Jamnagar Group which includes 35 Girl cadets. It is being undertaken on three 27 feet long Drop Keel (DK) whalers. All necessary precautions like lifebuoys were equipped on the boats along with safety ropes, life jackets were worn by all cadets and also the Gemini mechanised boats are accompanying the whalers throughout the expedition. Over and above all these, shadow sailing on Enterprise Class Dinghys manned by trained cadets and PI staff has also been factored in.
The team will undertake various social awareness campaigns like Cancer awareness, Sea shore clean up, Swach Bharat Abhiyan, Awareness on Indian Navy, Promote health and fitness through Coastal run and many others. This expedition provides an excellent opportunity to promote exposure of naval cadets to marine environment. It aims at fostering adventure spirit and promote camaraderie among the cadets which will hold them in good stead in real life situations.
