Morbi Bridge Collapse: Compensation raised to Rs 10 Lakh, Municipality to be dissolved

Morbi : The government of Gujarat, following the suggestion of the High Court, has increased the compensation to the kin of victims of the Morbi bridge tragedy to Rs 10 lakh. it informed the court on Monday.
The government informed the bench of chief justice Aravind Kumar and Justice AJ Shastri that ₹ 10 Lakh will be paid as compensation to the victims. ₹ 2 Lakh will be from PM Relief Fund and ₹8 lakh will be from Chief Minister Relief Fund.
The government also informed the court through an affidavit that it will “dissolve” Morbi Municipality and initiate “proceedings under section 263 of Gujarat Municipalities Act and disciplinary proceedings against the then chief officer of Morbi, SV Zala”.
It was Zala under whom the municipality signed the contract with Oreva Group for the maintenance and operation of the bridge that collapsed on October 30, killing 135 people. Further hearing on this suo moto PIL by the high court will be on December 21. DeshGujarat
