Gandhinagar: Gujarat police is organizing a ‘Lok Darbars’ across the state starting Monday for a week to intensify the drive against harassment by loan sharks. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi, announced the drive on Sunday.
Public hearings are being held by police officers of grades PI and above in their jurisdictions to take legal action against money lenders who have been exploiting the poor and middle class by charging exorbitant interest rates.
According to the statement in the official release, MoS said, “This is an attempt to connect with people and listen to their problems about harassment by money lenders. Without people having to visit police stations, police personnel will file complaints at public hearings and take action against dishonest money lenders.”
According to Gujarat’s Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia, the city and district police have been instructed to take strict action against moneylenders. The police are inviting people to file complaints if they had faced any harassment from moneylenders. DeshGujarat
