Gujarat reports increase in share of Union taxes and own taxes

Gandhinagar: There is an increase in Gujarat’s share in the Union government’s taxes, as well as an increase in the state’s own taxes compared to the previous year, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report for Gujarat for the year ended March 2022 revealed.

The report stated that 67% of revenue receipts during 2021-22 came from the state’s own resources, with an increase in own tax revenue by Rs. 27,412 crore (39.01%) and non-tax revenue by Rs. 3,526 crore (33.60%) compared to the previous year.

However, the own tax revenue and non-tax revenue were lower than budget estimates for 2021-22. The report also highlighted that the state government was entitled to goods and services tax compensation of Rs. 20,033 crore for its revenue loss during 2021-22.

Furthermore, the state’s share of Union taxes was Rs. 31,106 crore in 2021-22, a 53.85% increase from the previous year. Nonetheless, grants-in-aid from the Government of India (GoI) decreased by Rs. 3,150 crore (11.59%) from the previous year, according to the report. DeshGujarat
