March 31, 2023
Surat: According to the sources, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to file an appeal in the Surat sessions court on Monday against the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s order giving 2 years of sentencing to him in a defamation case.
In a 168-page verdict, the Surat court has declared 2-year punishment for Rahul Gandhi in the case of defamation filed against him by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi. However, the court has suspended the sentence for 30 days so that Rahul can challenge the verdict in a higher court. There is a record of 489 pages in the case. The translation of the Gujarati language verdict is completed. Rahul Gandhi’s legal team consisting of lawyers from Delhi may handle the case from his side, it is learnt.
Rahul Gandhi may seek stay on his conviction in this case to restore his membership of Lok Sabha. Rahul is presently a disqualified MP. He will not be able to contest elections even until his conviction is stayed. DeshGujarat
