Patan Congress MLA’s poll victory challenged; HC issues notice
April 11, 2023
Patan: Gujarat high court has issued a notice to Congress MLA from Patan, Kirit Patel, and the returning officer of Patan over a petition by a voter demanding the cancellation of Patel’s victory in the December 2022 assembly polls.
The petitioner, Pankajkumar Velani challenged Patel’s election, alleging non-disclosure of criminal cases in his nomination papers. Velani cited the details of four FIRs not mentioned in Patel’s Form-26 affidavit. Although objections were raised before and after the election, the authorities did not act, Velani argued and added that non-disclosure of criminal cases is punishable, as per the Supreme Court orders.
The bench of Justice Sangeeta Vishen issued a notice to Congress MLA while setting up the next hearing on June 16. DeshGujarat
