Mehsana: Pirubhai Mir, an GSRTC (Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation) bus driver at the Kheralu depot, will be honored with the Road Safety Award at the hands of President Draoupadi Murmu tomorrow, on April 18th, 2023.
Pirubhai Mir, who is 56 years old, has not caused any accidents and has not taken any leave during his 27-year tenure as an ST bus driver. He has also saved diesel by driving the buses wisely and has not been subject to any departmental inquiries. Considering the above points, he has been selected for the national level Road Safety Award, which recognizes his commitment to passenger safety, good conduct, and loyalty in his duty.
Pirubhai Mir is originally from Vadnagar, Mehsana and currently resides in Vav in Satlasana taluka with his family. When he received a call from Delhi about the award, he could not believe it at first. It was only after his depot manager informed him that he realized it was true.
Pirubhai’s father, Chhotubhai Mir, passed away when he was 15 years old. To support his family, Pirubhai started working as a conductor in local jeeps and earned Rs 700 to 800 per month. After failing class 10, he began driving trucks to Mumbai, Kolhapur, and other places, earning Rs 2 to 3 thousand every month. In 1997, he applied for the recruitment of bus drivers and got selected, with his first posting at Ankleshwar. DeshGujarat
