11.56 lakh houses, under PM Awas Yojana, successfully constructed in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Gujarat is leading India in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana with more than 11.56 lakh houses have been successfully constructed in the state. This includes 7.50 lakh houses under PM Awas Yojana (Urban) and more than 4.06 lakh houses under PM Awas Yojana (Rural).
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in 2015 with to eradicate urban slums and provide affordable housing to the urban poor and middle class. Later, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) was implemented in 2016 to provide houses to the people in rural areas.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), a target of 7.64 lakh houses was earmarked for Gujarat against the estimated demand. A total of 9.54 lakh houses have been sanctioned till date. Out of these sanctioned houses, construction of 7.50 lakh houses has been successfully completed and the construction of remaining houses is under progress. For 2022-23, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), it is planned to complete the construction of more than 1 lakh houses. A provision of ₹1066 crore has been made for the same.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), more than 4,06,000 houses with infrastructure have been constructed, till date, in rural areas. A total of ₹4877.72 crore has been spent for the same. A target for construction of 1,84,605 houses has been set under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) for 2022-23. An assistance of ₹2215.26 crore will be disbursed to the beneficiaries for the same.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), an additional assistance of ₹ 5000 for women beneficiaries is provided by the state government for construction of houses and bathrooms. More than 38,000 beneficiaries have been provided assistance worth ₹19.03 crores under the same. In addition, an incentive of ₹20,000 per beneficiary is provided by the State Government under the ‘Mukhyamantri Protsahak Sahay Yojana’ to the beneficiaries who complete the construction of the house within six months after the disbursement of the first instalment. In 2022-23, an assistance of ₹45.13 crore has been disbursed to more than 22,500 beneficiaries as incentive.
Smt. Kundanben Devmurari, a resident of Jasapar village in Surendranagar, says, “We lived in a house made of mud. And then, we got to know about this scheme. We have received financial assistance of ₹1,20,000 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). We got ₹30,000 as the first instalment, then ₹50,000 and finally, we got ₹40,000 from the government to build the house. We got all the instalments, and now we have a house with a roof. We are thankful to the PM Shri Narendra Modi and the CM Shri Bhupendra Patel.”
Gujarat is leading India in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The state also leads in the Credit Link Subsidy Component (Urban). More than 5.20 lakh beneficiaries have benefitted from the same.
In 2022, Gujarat was awarded in 7 categories by Government of India for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. They are as under:
1. Best performing state for implementation of CLSS
2. Best performing state for implementation of ARHC under model-01
3. Best AHP project under PPP model 4. Best State for Convergence with Other Missions
4. State with maximum technical visit at LHP site
5. Best performing SLTC under PMAY (U)
6. Best Performing Municipal Council (Una Municipality)
Rajkot has been selected for the Global Housing Technology – India Light House project, where houses are being constructed using Monolithic Concrete Construction Technology. Under this project, a total of 1144 houses of EWS-2 type having a carpet area of 39.77 square meters have been constructed at Rajkot.
Mr. Jayeshbhai Soni, a resident of Rajkot, is a beneficiary of the LHP project. Jayeshbhai says, “For the past 12 years, my family and I have been running a tiffin service and living in a rented house. We came to know that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana forms were out. We filled the forms and got a house. For us, this was our dream house. Our dream was fulfilled by the Central Government and the State Government. The EMI of this house is much lower than the rent of our previous house. We are very thankful to Government of India under Shri Modi and State Government for giving us our dream home. The future of both my daughters is now secured.”
