Development Works in Gujarat in last 9 years by Union Government led by PM Narendrabhai Modi

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi completed 9 years of successful leadership at the Centre on 26th May, 2023. In these 9 years, he has made dedicated efforts to make India a leader in every sphere. This has given a unique and leading identity to the country at the global level. To add, he has ensured that no one is left behind in availing the benefits of development.
Prime Minister has gifted various developmental works, projects and schemes to the nation, including his home state-Gujarat.
He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 13 years. During this tenure, he established the state as a Model of Development. However, there were a number of subjects for which he needed the support of the Union Government. After becoming the Prime Minister of India in 2014, he paid immediate attention to these to accelerate Gujarat’s development. Gujarat has prospered and scaled new heights in the last 9 years. Today, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel is successfully taking ahead the legacy of the Prime Minister.
Let us take a look at the major developmental works gifted to Gujarat by the Central Government, in the last 9 years.
1. Permission to install the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the installation of the gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam within the first 17 days of assuming the office as the Prime Minister in 2014.In 2016, construction of all 30 gates was successfully completed. On September 15, 2019, the Sardar Sarovar Dam, for the first time in its history, was filled with water up to its maximum capacity i.e. 138.68 meters.
2. National Status to Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU) and Raksha Shakti University (RSU)
The Union Government, under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, has accorded the status of National Universities to Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU) and Raksha Shakti University (RSU) in September 2020. These universities are now known as National Forensic Science University and Rashtriya Raksha University.
3. All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Rajkot
Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS, Rajkot on 31st December 2020. This AIIMS will provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of Gujrat.
4. Light House Project (LHP) – Rajkot
The Union Government selected Rajkot for the Lighthouse Project. So far, 1144 houses have been constructed under this project. These houses are built using special technology, which is affordable, strong, and earthquake resistant.
5. Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, Jamnagar
The world’s first Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in May 2022 at Jamnagar, Gujarat in the presence of Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth and Director General of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
6. Vande Bharat Express Train
In September 2022, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, gifted Gujarat the Vande Bharat Train. After a major success on two routes in Delhi, India’s first indigenous semi-high-speed train is now fully operational in Gujarat.
7. Foundation stone for headquarters of India’s first International Financial Service Centre Authority (IFSCA) at GIFT City
The foundation stone for India’s first International Financial Service Centre Authority (IFSCA) at GIFT City was laid by PM in Gandhinagar in August 2022.
8.Commencement of Phase-I of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gifted the Ahmedabad Metro and Surat Metro projects to Gujarat. The first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project was completed last year. In September 2022, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Metro Rail on Thaltej to Vastral route.
9.India’s First Bullet Train Connecting Ahmedabad-Mumbai
The Bullet Train is a landmark project of New India. On 14th September 2017, the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, and the then Prime Minister of Japan H.E Late Shinzo Abe laid the foundation stone of India’s first Bullet Train Project, connecting Ahmedabad to Mumbai.
10.Crude Royalty to Gujarat
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved a sum of ₹800 crore as crude royalty to Gujarat in March 2015.
11.Railway University in Vadodara
Gujarat has been a center for sector-specific education for a long time. In September 2018, the Prime Minister gifted India’s first National Rail and Transportation Institute in Vadodara.
12.Rajkot Greenfield Airport
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the Greenfield Airport in Rajkot. This new airport is being developed at a cost of more than ₹2500 crore on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway.
13.Railway Line connecting the Taranga Hill Ambaji-Abu road
In another milestone, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the 116.65 km long Railway Line Project connecting Taranga Hill-Abu Road. This railway line will facilitate smoother transport for pilgrims.
14.Medical Colleges in Five Districts of Gujarat
Today, due to the efforts of the Prime Minister, the Union Government gifted a medical college, each in Narmada, Navsari, Panchmahal, Morbi, and Porbandar, at a cost of ₹2250 crore. Each college will have 100 medical seats for students. This will enable quality medical education and healthcare to the people at their doorstep.
15.World’s Biggest Renewable Energy Park in Kutch
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gifted the World’s Biggest Renewable Energy Park at Khavda in Kutch. The goal is to produce 30,000MW (Solar and Wind Energy) by 2024 through this park.
16.Foundation stone for production of Electric Locomotive Machine Units at Dahod
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a nine thousand horsepower electric locomotive machine manufacturing unit to be built by Indian Railways at Dahod workshop in April 2022. The cost of the project is around ₹20 thousand crores. This project will create thousands of job opportunities in and around Dahod.
17.Bulk Drug Park at Bharuch
In October 2022, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the state’s first all-inclusive bulk drug park at Bharuch in Gujarat at an estimated cost of over ₹2500 crore. In addition, 4 tribal parks, 1 agro park, 1 seafood park, 1 MSME park, and 2 multi-level industrial sheds were also inaugurated by the PM.
18.Bharatmala Project
More than 1000 km of roads are being constructed in Gujarat under the ‘Bharatmala Project’ of the Government of India.
19.Railway connectivity till Statute of Unity
The Statue of Unity at Kevadia in Gujarat has emerged on the global tourism map today. Tourists from all over the world visit the World’s Tallest Statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kevadia Railway Station on January 2021 to provide better connectivity for tourists to the Statue of Unity. 12 new tourist attractions have also been added. International programs are organized in the premises of the Statue of Unity.
20.National Games in Gujarat
Prime Minister inaugurated the 36th National Games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was the first time in the history of Gujarat that an event was organized at such a scale in the field of sports. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the preparations were completed in less than three months.
21.Smart City Mission
The Smart City Mission was launched by the Government of India in June 2015, under which a total of six cities namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Dahod were selected from Gujarat.
22.Organizing 18 meetings in Gujarat under India’s G20 Presidency
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India received the prestigious presidency of hosting G20 from 1st December 2022 to 30th November 2023.
Under the G20, a total of 200 meetings are to be held in India, out of which 18 meetings have been organized in Gujarat. It is a matter of great pride for Gujarat as it got an opportunity to showcase its richness and growth keeping the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ for all the delegates visiting as part of the G20 Meetings.
23.PM Mitra Park, Navsari
Under the PM Mitra Scheme of the Central Government, it has been planned to build a textile park with state-of-the-art facilities at Vansi-Borsi in Navsari.
24.Smriti Van Earthquake Memorial and Museum, Bhuj
Prime Minister inaugurated Smriti Van in Bhuj, Kutch as a memorial to honor the lives that were lost in the devastating earthquake that hit Gujarat with Kutch as the epicenter on 26th January 2001.
25.Astol Project
In June 2022, Prime Minister dedicated the Astol project in Valsad, Gujarat. The project is providing water to 4.50 lakh people living in 174 villages and 1028 talukas in remote tribal and hilly areas of Valsad district. In terms of engineering, the Astol project is a miracle, in which water is being distributed through the Madhuban dam by transporting 7.5 crore liters of water per day to a height of about 200 floors (1837 feet).
26.Asia’s largest Girnar Ropeway in Junagadh
Prime Minister inaugurated Asia’s largest ‘Girnar Ropeway’ in Junagadh in October 2020. It is built to provide ease of climbing the Girnar Mountain for devotees to reach the Ambaji temple which has 10,000 steps.
27.National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC)
Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is being built at a cost of ₹3500 crore to showcase India’s rich and diverse maritime heritage from the Indus Valley civilization to the present day.
28.Construction of Atal Foot-over Bridge at Sabarmati Riverfront
Inaugurated by Prime Minister in August 2022, the Atal Footover Bridge between Ellisbridge and Sardar Bridge has been constructed for ease of commute to civilians and to mark the completion of a decade of the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.
29.Laying the foundation stone of the world’s first CNG terminal port at Bhavnagar
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the world’s first CNG terminal port at Bhavnagar in Gujarat in October 2022. The port will be developed at a cost of ₹4024 crore and will have state-of-the-art infrastructure. Apart from the CNG terminal, the port will also cater to the future needs of the Bhavnagar district and upcoming projects such as vehicle scrapping, container production, other mega projects and especially for the Dholera Special Investment Region.
30.Sabar Dairy Cheese Plant
Prime Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated three new cheese plants of Sabar Dairy in July 2022. This is an important step towards increasing the income of farmers (involved in animal husbandry) as it is estimated to generate an income of ₹700 crore.
31.India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) at GIFT City
The country’s first India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) as well as NSC IFSC-SGX Connect was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in July, 2022 at Gandhinagar GIFT City. This is important for establishing India as a leading player in the global gold trading market. This exchange has become very important for the jewelers of Gujarat.
Tourism development in Ambaji-Pavagadh-Somnath
~ Devotees coming to Ambaji Yatradham now have the benefit of seeing all 51 Shaktipeeths simultaneously in one place. Along with this, a light and sound show has been initiated at a cost of ₹13.35 crore, and a cultural village has also been constructed. The updated website of Ambaji Mandir as well as a mobile app developed by the Gujarat Pilgrimage Development Board have also been launched.
~ The PM unfurled a red flag on the spire of the Mahakali Temple at Pavagadh after 500 years. In the developments at Pavagadh, the Mahakali temple has been given a grand appearance, but the original form and structure has remained the same. Along with this, the state government has expanded the temple premises at a cost of ₹121 crore to increase the facilities of devotees coming to Pavagadh Dham. Development works are being done at a cost of ₹37 crore to provide basic facilities to the pilgrims in the Machi area of the foothills.
~ Somnath Temple located on the banks of Saurashtra is a center of faith for crores of people. Under Prasad Yojana, many development works are being done for the facilities of pilgrims in Somnath Dham like the circuit house that has been constructed at Somnath to accommodate tourists.
Vidya Samiksha Kendra
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vidya Samiksha Kendra last year. The aim of VKS is to obtain real time data in the education sector. This has become a model for other states. Today, education ministers and officials from various parts of India and the world have visited the centre to understand its functions. Under VKS, data of more than 1.25 crore students is being analysed. Apart from that, inputs to ensure outstanding performance of students are provided through a detailed analysis using Big Data Analysis, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Dedication and Foundation Stone Laying of various developmental projects by the Prime Minister in Gujarat
~ Dedication and Foundation Stone of developmental works of ₹3400 crore in Surat in September 2022, including the launch and completion of DREAM City projects worth ₹370 crore and a new Biodiversity Park in Surat at a cost of ₹139 crore
~ Dedication of Phase-1 of Ahmedabad Metro Project, worth more than ₹12 thousand crore, in September 2022
~ Foundation stone of the world’s first CNG Terminal, Brown Field Port at Bhavnagar in September, 2022. This port will be developed at a cost of ₹4024 crore. Inauguration of Regional Science Center and APPL container at Bhavnagar.
~ Dedication and foundation stone of developmental works worth ₹7908 crore in Banaskantha in September, 2022. Dedication and foundation stone of 61805 houses under various housing schemes. The foundation stone of the Taranga Hill to Abu Road Broad Gauge Railway Line was laid by the Prime Minister.
~ PM gifted the Vande Bharat Train in September 2022.
~ Launch of second and third phase of SAUNI scheme in Jamnagar in October, 2022. Launch of Link-1 Package-5 of SAUNI Yojana at a cost of over ₹300 crore and Link-3 Package-7 at a cost of over ₹700 crore.
~ Dedication and foundation stone of health facilities worth ₹712 crore at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Campus, including ₹54 crore state-of-the-art machines and world-class facilities for advanced heart treatment. Inauguration of new hostel building constructed at a cost of ₹71 crore at U.N Mehta Hospital, inauguration of new hospital constructed at a cost of ₹408 crore for Kidney Research Center and a new building of GCRI at a cost of ₹140 crore at Medicity.
~ Announcement of Modhera as 24×7 Solar Powered Village in October 2022.
~ Dedication and foundation stone of various developmental works worth more than ₹2890 crore in October,2022. This includes dedication of Sabarmati-Jagudan Gauge Line Conversion worth ₹511 crore and ONGC-Nandasan surface facility worth ₹336 crore.
~ Dedication and foundation stone of developmental works worth ₹8200 crore in Bharuch in October, 2022. This includes including state’s first all-inclusive bulk drug park at Bharuch at a cost of ₹2500 crore.
~ Dedication and foundation stone of developmental works worth ₹7710 crore in Rajkot, Morbi and other districts in October 2022. This includes foundation stone of Amul plant with capacity of 20 lakh liters per day on 119 acres in Gadhada, Rajkot and Medical College, Four lane Road, Railway Overbridge, New District Court Office in Morbi
~ Dedication and foundation stone of development projects over ₹4155.17 crore in Junagadh in October, 2022, including ₹2440 crore for Umargam to Lakhpat Coastal Highway scheme, completion of 600-bed GMERS Medical College and General Hospital in Porbandar
~ Dedication and foundation stone of ₹2083 development works in Tapi-Narmada-Surat district in October, 2022, including commencement of widening the road connecting Saputara to Statue of Unity by 10 meters. Dedication of 4 works related to water supply in Tapi and Narmada districts, works related to energy department in Surat and Tapi districts and 11 works of Energy and Petrochemicals Department
~ Foundation stone of developmental works worth more than ₹8000 crore in October 2022 in Tharad.
~ Dedication of Maze Garden and Miyawaki Forest at Kevadia
~ Dedication and foundation stone of developmental works worth ₹885.42 crore at Jambughoda, Panchmahal, including Green Administrative Block of Govind Guru University- the first State University of Gujarat , Godhra Medical College at ₹522 crore and Kaushalya- The Skill University worth ₹164 crore. Unveiling of the statue of Joria Parameshwar Statue and Shaheed Rup Singh Nayak Memorial Statue to commemorate the brave martyrs of freedom struggle.
~ Inauguration and dedication of various development works worth ₹2452 crore in Gujarat in May, 2023, including various urban development works at a cost of ₹1654 crore, launch and completion of water supply works worth ₹734 crore.
