Amendments to Gujarat organ transplant guidelines: No domicile papers needed

Gandhinagar: The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (Sotto) has made amendments to the Gujarat Deceased Organ and Tissue Transplantation Guidelines (G-Dot), eliminating the requirement of producing domicile papers and removing the upper age limit for receiving cadaver organs.

The changes include a five-point roster for organ distribution and waiving the fee for cadaver donation registration. These amendments aim to expand the reach of cadaver organ donations and align organ donation rules across states. The move follows a previous ruling by the Gujarat High Court that allowed non-domicile residents to be included in the kidney transplant preference list, deeming the earlier domicile requirement as discriminatory.
