Power restored in over 99% villages affected by Biparjoy: Gujarat govt

Gandhinagar: Electricity has been restored in over 99% of the villages that were affected by Cyclone Biparjoy. The state government made the announcement on Thursday, stating that power has been reinstated in 4,917 out of the total 4,945 villages that experienced disruptions due to the cyclone. Furthermore, the power supply has been fully restored in all 35 towns across 10 districts that experienced outages.

According to an official statement, the remaining 28 villages have not yet had power restoration operations initiated due to extensive waterlogging around the power distribution lines. However, electricity will be restored in these villages as soon as the water recedes.

The statement also revealed that power companies have incurred an estimated loss of Rs 1,013 crore due to damages caused by the cyclone, including power towers, poles, lines, transformers, and service cables.

To expedite the restoration efforts, a total of 1,089 teams, comprising over 6,000 workers from Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO) and all power distribution companies (DISCOMs), are working tirelessly with all available resources in the affected districts.

The supply of electricity to farmers in eight districts has been restored to 90% capacity. The statement further mentioned that power restoration in Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Jamnagar will be completed by June 30th. DeshGujarat
