EAM Jaishankar arrives in Gujarat for candidature for Rajya Sabha seat

Gandhinagar: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport on Sunday evening to file a nomination as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for Rajya Sabha from Gujarat.

Jaishankar currently represents Gujarat in the upper house. His term is soon going to end. He is in Gujarat to file a nomination and get reelected to the upper house.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared an election for three Rajya Sabha seats of Gujarat that are going to be vacant due to the expiry of the term of three existing Rajya Sabha members including Jaishankar. As the opposition Congress party lacks numbers in the State assembly it has decided not to field its candidate. Jaishankar and two other candidates of the BJP(whose names are yet not declared) will comfortably win the election unopposed.

While BJP has asked Jaishankar to file a nomination form at 12.39 pm Vijay Mahurat on Monday, the names of other two candidates are yet not declared.  DeshGujarat
