List of bills likely to be introduced in Monsoon session of Parliament starting July 20

New Delhi: The monsoon session of Parliament will commence on July 20th. This session will be the first session of Parliament in its new building. However, it is important for other reasons as the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Modi, will be bringing several significant bills during the session. Some of the bills that will be introduced during the session are the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023, and several others.
Here is a list of the bills that are going to be tabled in the upcoming monsoon session:
1. The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 aims to regulate the processing of digital personal data while recognizing individuals’ right to protect their data. The bill empowers the Data Protection Board (DPB) to levy fines of up to Rs. 250 crore on organizations that are in breach of the law.
2. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 seeks to replace an earlier ordinance issued by the Centre, granting control over the bureaucracy in Delhi. This ordinance was reversed a Supreme Court judgment that granted control of the bureaucracy to the elected government, excluding certain areas.
3. The Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill aims to amend existing laws related to biological diversity to address any gaps or deficiencies and ensure effective protection and conservation of biological resources.
4. The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill seeks to amend 183 provisions in 42 Acts with the objective of promoting business-friendly practices and decriminalizing minor offenses. The aim is to create an environment that facilitates ease of doing business.
5. The Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill proposes amendments to the composition of the board of directors of multi-state cooperative societies, mandating the inclusion of one Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe member and two women members.
6. The Postal Services Bill, 2023 aims to establish fundamental guidelines for postal services, promote their development, protect user rights, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country through post offices.
7. The National Cooperative University Bill, 2023 aims to establish a National Cooperative University focused on research, education, and training in the field of cooperatives to promote their growth and development.
8. The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment) Bill proposes amendments to rationalize the prohibited area and make necessary changes to existing laws related to ancient monuments and archaeological sites.
9: Repeal of International Monetary Fund and Bank Act, 1945: This bill aims to revoke the International Monetary Fund and Bank Act of 1945.
10. Repeal of Provisional Collection of Taxes: This bill seeks to abolish the provisional collection of taxes.
11. National Dental Commission Bill: This bill aims to establish a national dental commission to regulate dental education and professional standards. The bill also opposes the repealing of the Dentis Act of 1948.
12. National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill: This bill seeks to establish a national nursing and midwifery commission to oversee nursing education and standards.
13. Drugs, Medical Devices, and Cosmetics Bill, 2023, aimed at introducing regulations for ensuring safety, quality, and efficacy in drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics. It also seeks to repeal the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940.
14. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aims to introduce amendments that adapt to progressive societal changes and enhance the user-friendliness of the registration process. The bill aims to update databases at the national and state levels using registered births and deaths.
15. Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2023, aiming to streamline the process of sanctioning films for exhibition and introduce age-based classification instead of the current ‘U,’ ‘A,’ and ‘UA’ categories.
16. Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023, proposing amendments to introduce exploration licenses and modify the list of atomic minerals.
17. Reservation law amendments in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to amend reservation laws, change the nomenclature of weak and underprivileged classes to Other Backward Classes, and include the Valmiki community in the list of scheduled castes for the Union Territory. DeshGujarat
