Police probing another crash involving Tathya Patel earlier this month

Ahmedabad: Main accused in the SG Highway accident case that occurred two days ago is not new to being involved in car crashes. CCTV footage from 15 days ago, on July 3, has emerged, showing Tathya driving a Thar jeep and crashing into a restaurant wall on Sindhubhan Road. The CCTV clip reveals the car veering to the left, smashing into the restaurant wall with considerable force.

During the investigation of the ISKCON Bridge accident, an officer revealed that Tathya Patel had a prior accident. Fifteen days earlier, he had another accident with Thar vehicle number 0093, where he broke a wall at high speed. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the earlier accident, but it’s evident that he was driving recklessly.

It came to light that Tathya Patel and the restaurant manager had settled the earlier accident without proper police intervention.

The accident on the ISKCON Bridge was one of the most devastating accidents in Ahmedabad, claiming nine lives, including a constable and a home guard.

During police questioning, Tathya’s friends in the car revealed that they had urged him to drive at a lower speed, but he didn’t listen. He was known for consistently driving at high speeds, ignoring their pleas. Tathya himself admitted that he was driving between 100 to 120 mph and failed to see people in front of him.

Tathya Patel and his father Prajnesh Patel, were arrested by the police. The court has granted three-day police custody of Tathya until July 24, following arguments between the public prosecutor and the defence counsel. DeshGujarat
