Tathya Patel seeks home-cooked meals, education in jail

Ahmedabad: Tathya Patel, the main accused in the SG Highway accident case where nine people died, has formally requested the court’s permission to consume homemade meals and continue his education.

The 19-year-old is in judicial custody as an undertrial accused, and thus, it is not mandatory for him to consume jail food if he can arrange meals from external sources. Tathya has also requested that the court instruct the prison authorities to allow him to continue his studies. He is a second-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student.

The court is scheduled to review Tathya’s application on Wednesday. Tathya’s lawyer, Somnath Vatsa, conveyed that they have also requested the court to compel investigators to provide inquiry documents that are not included in the official charge sheet.

The tragic incident occurred when a Jaguar car rammed into a crowd on the Iskcon Flyover, resulting in nine fatalities and twelve injuries. Tathya was apprehended 15 hours after the accident and is currently in judicial custody. The police submitted a charge sheet encompassing 1,684 pages within a week of the accident, mentioning 191 witnesses. DeshGujarat
