Drunk driver rams car into three bikers and two pedestrians in Surat

Surat: In yet another incident of rash driving a speeding Swift car driver ran over three bikers and two pedestrians on the BRTS route in the Kapodra area here on Sunday night.

The accident occurred near Sneh Mudra Society in Kapodra, where Sajan Patel, the Swift car driver, collided with six people, including three bikers and two pedestrians. The bikers were crossing the road from a crossroad, heading towards the BRTS route when the collision happened. Despite the accident, Sajan Patel tried to escape but was apprehended by the people, who later found him under the influence of alcohol. Locals present at the scene started beating the driver and also taunted him by claiming ‘he was the brother of Tathya Patel’.

Sajan Patel, aged 27 and a resident of Rajput Paliya in Uttran, had driven to Rachna Circle in a Swift car with registration number GJ-05-RR-9995 after attending a birthday party where he consumed alcohol.  He recklessly sped along Jawahnarnagar Char Rasta, failing to slow down as necessary. Later, he caused this accident injuring several people.

The impact of the collision flung the bikers approximately 20 feet away, and the car’s airbag deployed upon impact. The car finally came to a halt around 25 feet from the accident site.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Kapodra police arrived at the scene. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby private hospital for medical attention, while the driver, Sajan Patel, was taken to SMIMER Hospital for treatment. Kapodra PI M.B. Vachhani confirmed that samples were taken at SMIMER Hospital to verify the driver’s alcohol consumption, as the investigation continues. All the victims suffered serious injuries to their arms and legs.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the driver’s state of intoxication only added to the crowd’s agitation, leading them to thrash him on the spot.

Ashvinbhai, the father of injured Kishan Heerpara, shared that his son was returning home after withdrawing money from an ATM when the driver’s vehicle struck him. The driver was clearly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Kishan, now admitted to a private hospital, is scheduled to undergo three operations due to his injuries. He suffered a wounded hand and a broken leg during the incident. Yash Ghevria, who was with Kishan, was also among those injured in the unfortunate accident. DeshGujarat
