Gandhinagar: During the recently concluded Monsoon session of Parliament, the government revealed that the total revenue generated from centrally-protected monuments with entry fees in Gujarat for the fiscal year 2022-23 was Rs 4.01 crore.
Out of all the monuments managed by the Archaeological Survey of India in Gujarat, Rani ki Bav (Queen Stepwell) in the Patan district of northern Gujarat generates the highest revenue. This stepwell was closely followed by Adalaj Stepwell near Ahmedabad, which was the second-highest revenue earner for ASI. Following that, the Sun Temple in Modhera also gained popularity among visitors, contributing a substantial amount of revenue to the government. The Prime Minister himself has promoted this Sun Temple on several occasions.
The Queen’s Stepwell in Patan is a Solanki-era monument with seven stories below the ground, featuring more than hundreds of sculptures on every level. The Prime Minister significantly endorsed it, featuring its picture on the one-hundred denomination currency notes.
Union Minister of Culture G Kishan Reddy provided a written response in the Lok Sabha, stating that the combined earnings from such monuments in the financial year 2020-21 were Rs 48.30 crore. This figure increased to Rs 101.50 crore in 2021-22 and further surged to Rs 252.85 crore in 2022-23.
The income derived from 7 ticketed monuments in Gujarat during the years 2020-21 and 2021-22 were 88 lakh and 2.65 crore, respectively. Notably, this figure rose to 4.01 crore in the year 2022-23. DeshGujarat
