Upcoming jungle safari in Kevadia to feature lions and tigers

Kevadia: A new jungle safari will soon be established in Kevadia, offering visitors an up-close view of two wild felines – the Asiatic lions and tigers. It will be set up in the valleys of the Satpura and Vindhyachal hill ranges. It is learned that this new safari will be twice the size of the existing safari near the Statue of Unity, spanning 375 acres and featuring a geodesic dome aviary.

The forest department, overseeing the project’s development, has enlisted the expertise of the Greens Zoological Rescue And Rehabilitation Kingdom, an NGO operated by Reliance Industries Ltd. The safari is modelled after Devaliya in Gir, designed as an open zoo where tigers and lions can roam freely in their natural habitat. Tourists can choose between a bus ride or an open jeep to observe these animals.

As part of an animal exchange program, two pairs of tigers will be brought here from other zoos in exchange for lions. Regarding the lions, the plan entails relocating two pairs with four cubs from Sakkarbaug Zoo.

An insider of the project revealed that after acquiring the land, the forest department will create a proposal to submit to the Central Zoo Authority of India.

The forest department requires approximately 700 acres of land for the safari. Officials from the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SoUADTGA) confirmed that land acquisition for the project is underway. This upcoming open safari will be situated near Nagatpuri Kothi village, just 10 km away from Kevadiya. DeshGujarat
