Over 17.50 lakh cusecs release from Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam; Downstream areas alerted

Update post 4 am:

17.42 lakh cusecs water released from Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam as of 4 a.m. against an inflow of 19.53 lakh cusecs. The dam is 99.93% full at 138.66 m level against the highest 138.68 m. Gujarat CM to visit the dam at 8.00 am to celebrate the full level of the dam which is considered Gujarat’s lifeline.

 

Four gates of Kadana dam in Mahisagar district opened for the release of over 56,000 cusecs of water post 4 am today against the inflow of over 7.77 lakh cusecs of water. The dam is now nearly 75% full.
The water level of river Narmada at Golden Bridge of Bharuch crosses a danger level of 24 ft post 4.30 a.m. Earlier this morning, a warning level of 22 ft was also crossed. At 4.55 am the level is 24.48 ft.

Narmada:  10 gates of Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam are opened with effect from 12.00 noon today for release of 1.45 lakh cusecs of water initially. More gates are likely to be opened every hour after this due to the expected increase in inflow at the dam.  The low-lying areas aligned to river Narmada in districts of Bharuch, Narmada, and Vadodara districts are alerted.

At 10 a.m. today, the level of water at the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam was recorded at 135.65 meters. The increase of 23 cm in the surface was recorded in just 2 hours. The maximum surface level in the dam is 138.68 m. An increase in water inflow was recorded by 3,64,629 cusecs in 2 hours. The dam has over 5.31 lakh cusecs inflow as of 10 am.

The gross storage in the dam is 90%  at present. Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam is considered lifeline of Gujarat, as a large area of the State is served by it for needs of drinking water and also irrigation.
