12,444 evacuated, 617 rescued, no loss of life due to flood: Relief Commissioner of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey today announced that no loss of life has occurred during the on-going floods. The flood situation has resulted in the closure of one state highway and 13 panchayat roads. These roads are expected to be reopened by late this evening, he added.

He stated that a total of 12,444 individuals have been evacuated from affected districts, including Narmada, Bharuch, Vadodara, Dahod, Panchmahal, Gandhinagar, and Anand, as of 2 p.m. today. Additionally, 617 people have been rescued from these areas by various units of the Army, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF. All evacuees are being transported to shelter homes and provided with necessities, including food packets.

Furthermore, he mentioned that more than 80 dams in the state are now over 90 percent full. Water levels are receding in most areas. However, all districts in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions, except Amreli and Bhavnagar, remain on alert due to the continued forecast of heavy rain. Citizens are urged to follow government and administration instructions. Fortunately, there have been no reports of loss of life or major damage due to the rain. A survey regarding the condition of livestock will commence later this evening. DeshGujarat
