Ahmedabad Court issues second summons to Tejashwi Yadav in defamation case

Ahmedabad: For the second time, a metropolitan court in Ahmedabad has issued summons to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in a criminal defamation case. The first summons was not delivered due to confusion. According to the latest summons, Yadav must appear in court on October 13.

Earlier, on August 28, Additional Metropolitan Magistrate D J Parmar had issued the first summons to Yadav in a criminal defamation case. This case was filed against him in response to reported remarks in which he allegedly said, “only Gujaratis can be thugs (fraudsters).”

During the hearing on Friday, it became apparent that the first summons had not been delivered to Yadav. There was confusion regarding who was responsible for serving the summons: the court believed Mehta’s lawyer had collected it from the court clerk and delivered it to Yadav, while the complainant, Haresh Mehta, thought the court or the police would serve it. To clarify, Parmar issued a second summons and instructed Mehta to make arrangements to deliver it to Yadav.

Haresh Mehta, who resides in Ahmedabad, lodged a complaint against Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in the metropolitan court. He invoked sections 499 and 500 of the IPC in response to Yadav’s offensive comments about the Gujarati community. It’s worth noting that Mehta, a 69-year-old individual, holds the position of Vice President at the All India Anti-Corruption and Crime Prevention Council.

The court conducted an inquiry against Yadav under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and found sufficient grounds to summon him. DeshGujarat
